Log #8: Output my mind's eye
Contract work took up more time and mind space this week, so I had less project time to work with. I still progressed on the info product, just not quite as much as I’d have liked. No Delivery Ravens work this week. And I didn’t miss it? Make of that what you will.
The content is coming along. Again, just chipping away an hour or so at a time.
A fair amount of my project time got taken up by working with an artist on the cover image.
I contacted an artist on Fiverr with a good idea of what I wanted with reference images and all that. But after getting the first draft, I didn’t like it. The first revision was better, but still not quite what I’m looking for. It’s difficult getting your ideas across and explaining what you want, especially in a field that’s not your own. It’s even harder when you know something is off with the art, but you can’t quite explain it. I also feel weird asking for tons of changes in a revision.
If we can’t get the art style right for this first image, I’ll try a different artist.
Fiverr is fine - I’ve had both good and bad experiences with it - but the last time I used it was a couple of years ago and it looks like they’re focusing a lot on AI. Are there any better platforms in 2025 (I basically use Fiverr for art)?
“JuSt UsE Ai!!” I obviously tried different AI image generators, but none of them produced anything like what I wanted. Colours and style, sure, not bad. The actual content, not even close.
If someone can build a tool that outputs the image in your mind’s eye perfectly at 300 PPI, that would be great.
After a few more days of sitting on my unfit desk chair, my indecision on which chair to buy (out of three or four options) got frustrating. Luckily, one of the chairs went on sale on Wednesday, so I jumped on it - it must have been a sign. It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a chair, even with a 25% discount. But I sit for so long on a daily basis that if it’s good, it’ll be worth the money. It arrives this week. And if I don’t like it, I’ll just return it and work my way down my shortlist.
What’s next
- Continue focusing on the info product’s content.
- Nail the style of the cover with the artist or find a new artist.
- Decide whether my new desk chair is a good fit.
