Log #7: Chipping away
Another short log this time round; there’s just not too much to say. It’s times like this where longer periods between these logs could be better, at least in terms of interesting things for readers.
I’ve been working on the digital product this week – basically no Delivery Ravens at all. I’m making ok progress. But not as much as I’d like. And I can’t determine whether there’s an issue there. I suspect I’m just slower than imagined.
Beyond content progress, I put together some ideas for a cover image, and I’ll be reaching out to some freelancers to create it.
I’ve also been thinking about pricing. The current idea is to price it around $20, similar to comparable products. When I imagine a lower price, it feels too little and that it’s not worth it. And when I imagine a higher price, I start questioning whether I’d pay for it personally. “Charge more” echos in the distance. Maybe not for the launch of my first digital product. Sorry Patrick.
As part of the marketing, I’ll be putting together an article containing a taste of the product, along with a nudge to buy the full thing. I started some work on that this week.
Did some more development work on liftingstones.org this week too, deploying a new documentaries page which is effectively just a directory of documentaries, unsurprisingly. I’ve enjoyed chipping away at its development TODO list that I previously put off in favour of writing. But now I’m feeling like I’m neglecting writing. Finding that balance is difficult.
Not quite project related, but I need a new desk chair. The Ikea Markus that’s supported me over the last 10 years or so is now clunky, restrictive, and hard. One of the armrests is loose and I have to tighten the hex screw every couple of days. The cushion is squashed and flat; I can feel the hard base beneath and it’s miserable. It’s time for an upgrade - something with proper adjustable armrests, maybe an adjustable headrest, and a cushier seat. But why is everything so expensive?
What’s next
- Continue focusing on the info product’s content.
- Reach out to freelance designers / artists and start on creating the cover.
